1. Sri Lanka 260/6 vs Kenya (2007)

The match between Sri Lanka and Kenya in the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup was a highly one-sided affair. Batting first after winning the toss, Sri Lanka posted a mammoth total of 260/6 in their 20 overs, which is the highest score in t20 world cup till date. The Sri Lankan innings was built around a devastating knock by Sanath Jayasuriya who smashed 88 runs off just 44 balls, with 11 fours and 4 sixes. His explosive batting in the powerplay overs set the tone for Sri Lanka’s huge total. Jayasuriya was well supported by Mahela Jayawardene who made 65 runs off just 27 balls. 

In response, Kenya never got going in the chase and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. They were eventually bowled out for a paltry 88 in 19.3 overs, losing the match by a massive 172 runs. Only David Obuya and Alex Obanda  provided some resistance as the rest of the batting collapsed.

2. England 230/8 vs South Africa (2016)

In the 2016 T20 World Cup, England posted a formidable total of 230/8 against South Africa. Sent in to bat by South Africa, England got off to a flying start thanks to Jason Roy’s 43 off 16 balls. Joe Root then destroyed the African bowling attack with his innings of 83 off 44 deliveries. Jos Buttler provided the late fireworks, smashing 21 off just 14 balls to propel England past 200. 

South Africa’s bowling lacked discipline and consistency as they gave away 26 extra runs. In the end, England’s aggressive batting display helped them set a competitive target of 231 for South Africa to chase.

3. South Africa 229/4 vs England (2016)

In that same match, South Africa got off to a solid start with de Kock and Amla at the crease. The opening pair added 96 runs before De Kock fell for 52 off just 24. Amla anchored the innings with a brilliant half-century and scored 58 off 31 before getting out. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, the Proteas stayed in the hunt thanks to the belligerent hitting of JP Duminy and David Miller. 

Duminy scored 54 off 28 and Miller smashed 28 off just 12 deliveries. Needing 15 off the last over, South Africa could only manage 11 runs as they fell short by just 2 runs in a thrilling high-scoring encounter against England. The 229 runs they made is their highest score in t20 world cup ever. 

4. India 218/4 vs England (2007)

The 2007 T20 World Cup match between India and England is remembered for Yuvraj Singh’s sensational six sixes in one over off Stuart Broad. Cricket fans also saw India’s highest score in t20 world cup which is still intact. Batting first after winning the toss, India got off to a flying start thanks to Gautam Gambhir’s 58 off 41 balls and Shewag’s 68 off 52. After Gambhir’s dismissal, Yuvraj Singh walked in and completely changed the complexion of the game.

The 19th over yielded India 36 runs as Yuvraj raced to 50 off just 12 balls. He remained unbeaten on 58 off 16 balls to propel India to the mammoth total of 218/4. In response, England never recovered from Yuvraj’s brutal assault and were bundled out for 200, losing by 18 runs. Despite Vikram Solanki and Kevin Pitersen’s fight, they couldn’t chase down the target. 

5. South Africa 211/5 vs Scotland (2009)

The match between South Africa and Scotland in the ICC T20 World Cup saw the Proteas put up an imposing total of 211/5 after being asked to bat first. South Africa got off to a blistering start courtesy Graeme Smith’s attacking 38 runs off just 29 balls. Kallis departed after scoring 48 off 31. AB de Villiers then carried forward the momentum with his 34-ball 79. The assault by De Villiers just destroyed the Scottish bowling attack. At the end the fireworks were provided by Albid Morkel who scored 24 off 11. 

While chasing a mammoth total, Scotland never had a chance to settle down and attack. Their wickets kept falling and they only made 81 runs. Kyle Coetzer scored 42 runs and gave a little fight. 

6. India 210/2 vs Afghanistan (2021)

The match between India and Afghanistan in the 2021 T20 World Cup saw a dominant batting display by the Indians as they posted 211/2 after being put into bat which was the highest score in t20 world cup 2021 edition. Rohit Sharma anchored the innings with a solid 74 off 47 deliveries while KL Rahul provided an aggressive start with 69 off 48 balls. The opening pair added 140 runs to lay the foundation for India’s massive total. After the openers fell, Pant and Pandya carried the momentum where Pant scored 27 off 13 and Pandya smashed 35 off 13. 

In the end, Afghanistan only managed to make 144 runs and lost the match by 66 runs. Only K janar and Mohammed Nabi fought till the end and helped them to reach a respectable total.
