Delivering Health: Mapping the Insulin Delivery Devices Market in 2024

Insulin Delivery Devices Market

What are the common types of insulin delivery devices available in the insulin delivery devices market?

Insulin hormone is formed by the body to preserve glucose levels in the blood. It is created by beta cells, which are found in pancreas organ. Insulin helps to transport glucose from a normal range of blood flow into body cells to develop energy. Within the organism, the energy stores of the cells within mitochondria are not converted to glucose in the absence of sufficient levels of insulin hormones.

The issue is in type 1 diabetes patients as their beta cells of pancreas are unable to produce insulin, which must be provided externally to maintain blood sugar levels in the blood. Type 2 diabetes is a medical condition that affects beta cells, which do not create enough insulin, or the insulin is inactive. Insulin delivery devices are used to infuse calculated amounts of insulin every time. Based on their ability to determine the right blood glucose volumes in the body, injecting pens are beneficial to devices available in the insulin delivery devices market.

Insulin delivery device types:

In insulin delivery devices there are multiple types of devices available. Some insulin delivery devices are described below:

  • Insulin syringes: Syringes are an easy method of injecting insulin directly into nerves. These are available in sizes of 30 units, 50 units, and 100 units. Patients opt for syringes as per the size of their insulin dose. Syringes have sharp hollow needles at the top for efficiently injecting insulin doses. These needles are available in numerous sizes ranges from 6 to 8 mm. People use insulin syringes only once and then dispose of them after use.
  • Insulin pens: Insulin production companies developed insulin pens to flawlessly inject insulin in simple steps. Insulin pens are of two types: disposable and reuseable. Disposable insulin pens have insulin cartridges to effectively inject insulin by following a small set of steps. People dispose of these pens when they become empty or when they store them without specific temperature conditions. Moreover, reusable insulin pens need the inclusion of new cartridges when first cartridge becomes empty. Reusable pens aim to reduce the expenses associated with purchasing new pens. They are specifically designed to accommodate only certain brands of insulin. Cartridges of these pens are discarded after one month of initiation if insulin remains in the cartridges.
  • Insulin pumps: Tiny-programmed devices called insulin pumps, which have a limited amount of insulin, attach to the body. These devices automatically inject a specific amount of insulin into the body tissues via thin plastic tubing called a concoction set. These pumps utilize rapid-action insulin that works four times faster than normal insulin.

The consumer or their healthcare provider arranges insulin pumps to automatically inject small consistent amounts of insulin into the body. This helps in maintaining blood glucose levels appropriate between food intervals. Consumers can direct the pump to provide insulin every time they eat food, similar to the method the pancreas works in individuals with no diabetes.
