Feel free to use our easy-to-follow instructions and patterns to create felt Christmas ornaments to give as gifts or hang on your Christmas tree. These Christmas decorations feature furry friends, Christmas trees, and monograms.

Felt Ball Ornaments

We love vintage ornaments, and this DIY felt version is an excellent alternative to traditional, bright bulbs. Cut out our free pattern in alternating felt colors to make DIY felt ball ornaments and attach them with embroidery thread.

Plaid Stamped Ornaments

Plaid is always fashionable for Christmas. These festive felt ornaments allow you to incorporate the plaid pattern into your tree decorations. They are easy to make. Use a plaid stamp (from $8 to Etsy) and ink to create a plaid pattern on felt sheets. Then cut the ornament shapes into desired shapes, and attach a ribbon.

Monogram Ornament

These festive monogrammed Christmas ornaments can be hung on the trees or used as package toppers. Make them by forming loose wool letters into the alphabet and adding wool pom poms (from $13 to $13 on up, Etsy).

Felt Snowflake Ornament

You can trace a papier-mache disc onto felt and cut it out. Then glue the felt to the round disk. Hot glue (or crafts glue, $2, Michaels) to decorate with paper dots (from paper punch), purchased snowflakes, punched hearts, or felt-covered buttons.

Felt Baby Owl Ornament

Instead of traditional red and green, make this adorable baby owl out of teal and green felt.

Draw your patterns on white paper and cut them out.

Take 12-inch pieces of green, yellow, white, black, and teal felt. Draw the owl designs onto the felt and cut them out.

Use the running stitch and matching thread to hand-stitch the facial features to the one body piece. Then, place the tiny owl wings between the components of the body.

To make the hanging loop, fold 4 inches of green ribbon. Then insert the ends between the body pieces at the top.

Hand-stitch the body pieces using a 1/8-inch seam allowance. Be sure to catch the hanging loops and wings in the seams as you stitch. The ornament should have a 1-1/2 inch opening at its bottom. Turn the ornament right-side out. Stitch the opening shut with polyester fiberfill.

Felt Snowmen Ornaments

These cheerful snowmen make great felt Christmas ornaments.

Two snowman shapes can be cut from white felt ($2, Mikes).

Stitch French knots with black embroidery floss for the eyes, outline stitches, or straight stitches to make smiles. For a carrot nose, whipstitch on an orange scrap.

Use the blanket stitch to attach the snowman to the front. Leave a small opening for polyester fiberfill to be stuffed, and then close the seam.

Cut scraps of felt for the front and back of the stocking caps; whipstitch on other colors to make stripes.

Attach the layers using a blanket stitch.

If desired, glue a pom-pom to each hat and tie a scarf from scraps around your neck. For hanging, add a ribbon loop.

Felted Ball Ornament

This wreath ornament is made from felted wool balls and can be assembled quickly.

Use a 26-gauge wire to thread a large tapestry needle. Then, run the hand through the felted wool balls. We used five one-1/2-cm balls and five 1-cm balls.

To form a circle, cut the wire and twist the ends.

To create a hanging loop, tie Perle cotton ribbon or thread around the wreath.

Scandinavian-Inspired Felt Christmas Ornaments

Traditional folk crafts inspire these ornaments.

Cut three to four layers of felt (matching colors at the front and back or complementary hues) for visual depth.

To attach them, use hot glue ($3, Mikes), or connect all layers with a variety of straight stitches and curlicues.

Hang the ornament by hot-gluing a long ribbon.

Felt Poinsettia Christmas Ornament

Your evergreen Christmas tree will be adorned with festive red and white poinsettias. The best part? These gorgeous felt creations don’t need watering! Grab some white or red felt ($2, Mikes) to get started.

Editor’s tip These ornaments can be used as package decorations without hanging loops.

Teardrop Christmas Ornament

This adorable felt ornament features a simple and elegant design. This Christmas craft is easy to make using pinking shears and felt.

Felt Mitten Ornaments

Our mitten-shaped felt Christmas ornaments would give your tree a warm look.

Draw a mitten design on a piece of paper. Cut it out. The pattern will be used to cut the wool felt layer for the top mitten.

You can make solid shapes out of different colors of wool felt or decorate with wool roving.

Use a felting tool to place the mitten top onto a felting board and arrange your decorations. Use a needle-felting device and follow the manufacturer’s instructions to secure the tool onto the felt piece. Keep adding layers until you have a finished design.

For the cuff, cut a piece of wide-legged roving. Double it if necessary to achieve the desired thickness.

Use the needle-felting instrument to attach the cuff to your mitten top. Place the mitten top onto a more oversized mitten back and use a felting brush to apply it. Secure the mitten top by squeezing the needle-felting instrument around its edge.

Finish the ornament by sewing one or two felted balls in the right corner. Hang a loop.
