How to Wash Clothes When the Washer is Broken

Washer is Broken

Washing dirty chores is necessary, and everyone has to do it. The first washing machines were built in the 1850s, but not everyone had access to them. Even today, washing machines are very common, yet many people still don’t have them in their homes. Even if you have a washing machine in your home, it can stop working at any time. This can prove to be a big hassle, especially when you need to wash clothes urgently. Therefore, you must know how to wash clothes without a washing machine. Here is how you can wash clothes when your washer is broken.

Hand Washing the Laundry

Washing clothes by hand is a common technique widely used when there is no washing machine present in the house. Despite being a very effective process, it’s entirely physical and tiring. However, it is very easy for the people that fall under a young age group. Follow these steps while washing clothes by hand:

  • Fill a bucket with warm water and keep on adding the water until a quarter of it is full.
  • Put the detergent in the water and make sure that foam is formed. Put the dirty clothes inside the bucket and soak them for 45 minutes.
  • To remove all the stains from the clothes like a washing machine, move your clothes by hand back and forth for 2 minutes.
  • Drain the dirty water from the bucket and then add fresh water inside it to rinse the clothes.
  • Wash the clothes for at least two minutes.
  • Then pick the clothes one by one and squeeze them by hand to remove most of the water from them.
  • Hang them with a hanger or clothes rack on the cloth line so that they get dry.

Not only can your clothes be washed without a washing machine, but they can also be hand-washed without the use of detergent. Simple household items can be used in place of washing detergents. Gentle dishwashing liquids, white vinegar, baking soda, and borax can be used to disinfect clothes, just like store-purchased detergents do.

Use Wonder Wash as a Replacement for the Washer

A wonder wash is considered the best alternative when your washer is broken or isn’t working properly. It is generally a small device that is portable but requires strong arms if you want it to work perfectly. If you are using a wonder wash, simply add warm water with a little detergent and put your clothes inside it. Then turn the handle on the side of the machine for five minutes to drain all the existing water. After that, pour fresh water into the wonder wash and turn the handle for another five minutes.

Movable Washer Plunger

Trying to wash clothes without a washing machine can be very frustrating for an individual. But there are a lot of solutions that you might not have heard of. A moveable washer plunger is another sort of device which makes it convenient to wash clothes when a washer isn’t working. This device is similar to a toilet plunger. It is specially made to force air and water directly into your clothes. You will get the cleanest clothes as soon as possible by doing this continuously. However, using a plunger can also become difficult if you don’t follow the right way to do it. The right way is the one you use for washing your toilet with a plunger as it works perfectly for the clothes.

Washing the Laundry with a Bucket and a Gamma Seal Lid

Although the gamma seal lid has so many uses, it can also turn a simple bucket into a washing machine. You can simply use this lid and can make a new washing machine with airtightness and leak-proof properties. Here is how you can do it:

  • Cover the bucket with the lid at the start of the process.
  • Then add warm water and a small amount of detergent by loosening the lid. Keep adding the detergent until the foam is formed.
  • Put the dirty clothes inside the bucket, cover them properly and let them stay there for at least 30 minutes.
  • After 30 minutes, start shaking the bucket back and forth for at least five minutes.
  • After that, remove the lid and all the dirty water.
  • Then, add some fresh water to the bucket and repeat the process.
  • At last, take out the wet clothes, squeeze them and let them dry.

The methods shared above can be used to wash clothes when your washer is broken. Some of them may be a bit convenient, but at least you will get clean clothes. So, if your washer is broken, try any of these methods and use cheap alternatives to cleaning your clothes without a washer.
