Overview

Chopta trek is one of the famous treks of Uttarakhand and is also the most visited trek as far as North India is considered. The Chopta offers the most beautiful views of nature as well as of the great Himalayas.Young trekkers are crazy about trekking in Chopta. Chopta is a small village which is located in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. It is situated under the Garhwal range of Himalayas. Chopta trek is about 400 kms far from Delhi and the road built is well motorable. Chopta is a  base for trekking to Tungnath which is the third temple of Panch Kedar that lies 3.5 kilometers  away. At a distance of 1.5 kilometers  from Tungnath, Chandrashila which is a summit that rises to over 13,000 ft. Chopta is located at an elevation of 8,888 ft above sea level.

 

One can even do a solo trip to Chopta because the trek route to Chandrashila is quite easy. Chopta attracts young trekkers from across the globe with its mesmerizing beauty. A minimum of 3 days is sufficient for a person to trek to Chopta as it has many low altitude trek points available. Chopta is also famous for watching beautiful and variety of birds. The beautiful snow-clad mountains during winters just add to the beauty of Chopta as it looks as if everything is covered with a white blanket. Best Seasons To Trek To Chopta:-

Chopta looks mesmerizing throughout the year.During winters the snow-clad mountains are a threat to one’s eyes. During monsoon the green scenic beauty refreshes the mind and soul. The cool and pleasant weather makes it a good place. For the people to get rid of harsh heat waves during the summer season. There is no particular season to trek to Chopta. One can visit there anytime of the year except during heavy snowfall and heavy rainfall. Chopta and Tungnath witness clear and pleasant weather during the months of September and October which gives a clear view of Himalayas. Rhododendron flowers, which are known by local people as Buransh, are available in the months of April and May. These flowers are red in color, thus making the surroundings look more mesmerizing. 

Weather In Chopta:-

The  temperature of Chopta in January  is between -8°C  and  7°C . The mountains are usually  covered with snow in January and you would feel freezing cold throughout the entire day. Woolen clothes and snow shoes/boots are highly recommended for Chopta in January. 

Seasons Of Chopta:-

Winters:- The tranquility and remoteness during the winters is at its best in Chopta trek. It is freezing during winters but the beautiful white blanket of snow makes it all vanish. Chopta looks like a mini Switzerland during winters due to its snow-clad meadows and mountains. 

Summers:- The weather during the summers is quite pleasant as it is neither too hot nor too cold. It’s very cool in a pleasing way. It is advised to keep light woollens with you during summer treks to Chopta.

Monsoon:- First of all raincoats are highly recommended during monsoon season as Chopta witnesses moderate to heavy rainfall during monsoons. It is quite risky to trek to Chopta during monsoons as there is a risk of landslides. But the beautiful and breathtaking beauty of Chopta during monsoons is worth taking a risk.
